Younis resignation rejected and still Pakistan Captian

The Pakistan Cricket Board has rejected Younis Khan's resignation and confirmed that the batsman will continue to lead the side. "There is no justification in removing him as captain therefore I have not accepted his[Younis] resignation," PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt said.

"He[Younis] will continue as captain until the World Cup in 2011, as long as he is fit," Butt said in a press conference held at National Cricket Academy, Lahore. “There was no reason to accept Younus's resignation as he had steered his team to victory in the Twenty20 World Cup in England, qualified for the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa. With so many performances this year do you think he should be changed?" Butt asked reporters.

Younis offered his resignation last week in protest at match-fixing allegations made against the team by a senior member of parliament, which was later have been widely rejected as untrue. A meeting was called to discuss the performance of the team in the Champions Trophy after the NA committee Chairman Jamshed Dasti said on television he had evidence Pakistan deliberately under-performed against Australia and New Zealand.

Younis, 31, who was supposed to be the automatic choice to succeed Inzamam-ul-Haq but veteran batsman had rejected offers to lead Pakistan after the 2007 World Cup disaster, forcing the PCB to turn to a younger and less experienced Malik. He however accepted the captaincy early this year after the PCB removed Shoaib Malik from captaincy following a one-day home series defeat to Sri Lanka in January. "When I made Younis captain[of Pakistan], i didn't give him tenure[as to how long his captaincy tenure will last], we won't tell him about it now either," Butt said.

Younis led Pakistan to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 in England in July before announcing his retirement from the version of the game, insisting that T20 is the toughest form of the game, it’s not easy and he think he is too old for this[T20] type of game.
