Glamorgan have signed Australia fast bowler Shaun Tait as their second overseas player for next year's Twenty20 Cup. The 26-year-old has played 22 one-day internationals and three Tests for Australia including two in England's victorious 2005 Ashes series, but only resumed his career after taking time out of the sport in 2008.
“I am looking forward to joining Glamorgan Cricket next season and particularly to playing in the brand new SWALEC Stadium – the venue for the historic 1st Ashes Test match last season,” Tait said.
“It will be exciting to play alongside fellow Aussie team mate Mark Cosgrove and to meet the rest of the squad, which is, an ideal balance of exciting young talent and experienced players,” said Tait - who is currently playing limited-overs cricket for South Australia.
Glamorgan coach Matthew Maynard added: “Shaun is a world class player and a household name. He chose Glamorgan over several offers he received from other counties. He is one of the quickest bowlers in the World and will complete the balance of our Twenty20 playing squad which already contains several batsmen who are capable of inflicting heavy punishment upon opposition bowlers in short order”.
Tait, 26, has been intermittently selected by his country in one-day and Twenty20 internationals since returning from self-imposed exile in 2008. But had quit the game soon after Australia’s defeat to India in January 2008, citing emotional and physical exhaustion from, among other things, a succession of injuries.
