"I want to see Pakistan at no 1 spot" - Younis Khan

Pakistan captain Younis Khan said after offering my resignation 'I realised that the whole nation is with me' and if such support keeps up, Pakistan definitely will win several Cups and mega events. Khan however had resigned from the captaincy following after the ICC Champions Trophy but the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rejected his resignation and reappointed him the captain until World Cup 2011.

“I didn't resign in a bid to acquire more power. Instead I got the nation back up which is more important and if nation-support remained with me, Pakistan will lift several title in future,” Younis said in a press conference organized by Islamic Welfare Funds at Karachi Gymkhana Club. "I want to see Pakistan at number 1 spot," added Younis.

"It has put more responsibility on me," he said. "And if I used to play a hundred percent (input), now I have to play 200 percent,” emphasised Younis - who resigned over match-fixing allegations after Pakistan lost against Australia and New Zealand in the Champions Trophy. “I have played eight, nine years now... but yes, this time around the support from the public, media and former players has put more responsibility on me and I am ready to take it."

Younis, 31, hopes his side can echo the strong New Zealand team bond, when they face them next week in Unite Arab Emirates (UAE). "New Zealand is like Sri Lanka and Australia as they also play as a unit, so when we play such a team we have to play as a unit to beat them. I hope that it will be a good series," said Younis.

Younis – who suffered with a minor hairline fracture in his right hand finger however after detailed examination of injury Younis has been advised rest by the doctors and is under treatment. But Younis did not take rest and played each and every game of the Champions Trophy in South Africa – in which Pakistan lost the semi-final to New Zealand.

Younis confirmed that his 'finger injury is not that serious', he just 'needed a rest and now his is completely fit.'

Younus also praised the selectors for giving the best combination for the series against New Zealand and expressed the hope that their opening problem will be sorted out in presence of three specialists (openers) with the recalling of Salman Butt, Imran Farhat and Khurram Manzoor.

New South Wales Lift Champions Leauge Trophy 2009

New South Wales 159 for 9 (Lee 48, Rampaul 3-20) beat Trinidad & Tobago 118 (Clark 3-21, Lee 2-10) by 41 runs

Brett Lee starred with a stunning all-round performance as New South Wales beat Trinidad & Tobago to win the inaugural Champions League Twenty20, and with it a jackpot of US$ 2.5 million, in Hyderabad. The 41-run margin of victory, however, didn't mean it was a one-sided contest. T&T dominated initially, reducing NSW to 83 for 6, before Lee's fighting innings lifted his side to a competitive total. He then returned for a fiery spell with the new ball, jolting T&T's chase with two early wickets.
Trinidad's dream run came to a crushing halt, and they had to settle for second prize - US$ 1.3 million.
Brett Lee won the man of the match and man of the series awards.......
End of great tournament......

Misbah shines after Selectors droped him

Former vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq after being axed from the national squad played a brilliant innings of 248 runs for Sui Northern Gas against Lahore Shamlimar in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy at LCCA Ground.

Misbah said that with fitness and scoring runs he would dispel the impression that his increasing age is a bearer in the way of his career. "I don't think age is any bar from performing well. Look at Sanath Jayasuriya – who is still fluent with the bat despite his age[40] and I'm also very fit and will keep on doing my best. As long as one is fit one can play at any age," Misbah said while talking to reporters.

He said that he has already gone through jolts of axing from the team but he would make his comeback by showing better form. "I was not expecting that they[selectoers] will be ignoring me from all teams[ODI, T20I, Test]. I am really disappointed. I don't know why they have not considered me for any team because just today I have scored 284 runs in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and I'm in good form," he added.

Both Misbah and Usman Arshad shared 479-run - a record fifth wicket partnership in Pakistan domestic cricket, Arshad hit 183 off 286 along with Misbah who hammered four-six and 39-fours off 327 balls to score 248 runs before lost his wicket in a bid to hit a lofty six over long-on; didn't clear the rope and was caught by Sohail Idrees – who took a well judge catch to end Misbah's chance-less remarkable innings.

India behind most terror attacks in Pakistan............

Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Wednesday accused India of sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan, saying Delhi itself would be responsible for any terrorist attack if carried out in future on its soil.

We have solid evidence that not only in Balochistan but India is involved in almost every terrorist activity in Pakistan,’ the minister said after attending a meeting on security of educational institutions.
The interior minister’s statement that India was patronising terrorism in Pakistan raises a question why the interior minister had remained silent in the past and why the evidence of Indian involvement was not made public in the beginning.
Mr Malik asked his Indian counterpart Chadambharam to stop blaming Pakistan for terrorism in India, saying: ‘Mr Chadambharam should first take care of his own country and then blame Pakistan. Don’t threaten us. We can give better ones to you.’
APP adds: He said that the Indian interior minister should arrest culprits of Samjhota Express bombing, killers of Rajiv Gandhi and many more such incidents instead of blaming Pakistan for being incapable of coping with terrorists.
‘If we talk about composite dialogue, they (India) should not consider it our weakness at all,’ he added.
He said India had made it a practice to threaten Pakistan every three months, adding: ‘We are a nuclear state and not so weak. We better know how to retaliate.’
The minister referred to the Indian prime minister’s statement that more Mumbai-like attacks could take place in India and said: ‘I ask the Indian prime minister that if they have any information about more Mumbai-like attacks they should share these with Pakistan and we will look into them, but if India does not share anything with us then they would be responsible for any incident,’ he said.
‘I have time and again said there was Indian involvement in Balochistan and we have evidence, which could be shared with India, if they agree to come and sit with us,’ he claimed.
About Mumbai attack, Mr Malik said: ‘We have yet not received the seventh dossier, but we have arrested all seven accused of Mumbai attacks.’
Pakistan would definitely take action against Hafiz Saeed if he was found guilty, but the government could not take action against any citizen of the country without solid proof against him, the minister said.
In reply to a question, the minister said that Pakistan had earlier handed over 18 accomplices of Abdul Malik Rigi, including his brother, to Iran.
He, however, said that Rigi was not in Pakistan and said he was in Afghanistan and ‘we can even point out his exact location in Afghanistan’.
To a question about installation of biometric system at the Pak-Afghan border, he said around 50,000 people crossed the border daily.
‘We have installed a biometric system on the Pak-Afghan border to check the movement of the people and the matter has also been taken up with the Afghan government and they have also agreed to install a similar system at their side of the border.’

Suicide blasts at Islamabad’s Islamic university kill six

A double suicide bombing at Islamabad’s International Islamic University on Tuesday killed up to seven people, including the two bombers, an administration official said.

Police investigators confirmed that both were suicide attacks.

Younis resignation rejected and still Pakistan Captian

The Pakistan Cricket Board has rejected Younis Khan's resignation and confirmed that the batsman will continue to lead the side. "There is no justification in removing him as captain therefore I have not accepted his[Younis] resignation," PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt said.

"He[Younis] will continue as captain until the World Cup in 2011, as long as he is fit," Butt said in a press conference held at National Cricket Academy, Lahore. “There was no reason to accept Younus's resignation as he had steered his team to victory in the Twenty20 World Cup in England, qualified for the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy in South Africa. With so many performances this year do you think he should be changed?" Butt asked reporters.

Younis offered his resignation last week in protest at match-fixing allegations made against the team by a senior member of parliament, which was later have been widely rejected as untrue. A meeting was called to discuss the performance of the team in the Champions Trophy after the NA committee Chairman Jamshed Dasti said on television he had evidence Pakistan deliberately under-performed against Australia and New Zealand.

Younis, 31, who was supposed to be the automatic choice to succeed Inzamam-ul-Haq but veteran batsman had rejected offers to lead Pakistan after the 2007 World Cup disaster, forcing the PCB to turn to a younger and less experienced Malik. He however accepted the captaincy early this year after the PCB removed Shoaib Malik from captaincy following a one-day home series defeat to Sri Lanka in January. "When I made Younis captain[of Pakistan], i didn't give him tenure[as to how long his captaincy tenure will last], we won't tell him about it now either," Butt said.

Younis led Pakistan to victory in the ICC World Twenty20 in England in July before announcing his retirement from the version of the game, insisting that T20 is the toughest form of the game, it’s not easy and he think he is too old for this[T20] type of game.

Asif's five-wicket haul stepdown WAPDA

Water and Power Department Authority (WAPDA) stalled on 133 against National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) in the second match of their second round of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. WAPDA botched to negotiate Muhammad Asif's devastating bowling in their first innings as the entire team shattered in 42.2 overs.

Terrorists attacks 20 dead, 29 injured in Lahore

LAHORE: Teams of gunmen attacked three security sites on Thursday in Lahore, killing a total of 20 people and leaving at least 29 injured.

One of the attacks, on the Elite Police Academy on Bedian Road, lasted into Thursday afternoon before security forces killed the five attackers and freed a family they were holding hostage, police said.

The assaults paralysed the cultural capital of the country, showing the militants are highly organised and able to carry out sophisticated, coordinated strikes against heavily fortified facilities despite stepped up security across the country.

No group immediately claimed responsibility, though suspicion fell on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan who have claimed other recent strikes. The attacks on Thursday also were the latest to underscore the growing threat to Punjab.

‘The enemy has started a guerrilla war,’ Interior Minister Rehman Malik said. ‘The whole nation should be united against these handful of terrorists, and God willing we will defeat them.’

The wave of violence halted activity in Lahore. All government offices were ordered shut, the roads were nearly empty, major markets did not open and stores that had been open pulled down their shutters.

The violence began just after 9 a.m. when a group of gunmen attacked a building housing the Federal Investigation Agency, a law enforcement branch that deals with matters ranging from immigration to terrorism.

‘We are under attack,’ said Mohammad Riaz, an FIA employee reached inside the building via phone by The Associated Press during the assault. ‘I can see two people hit, but I do not know who they are.’

Younis resign during National Assembly committee meeting

Pakistan captain Younis Khan has offered to resign his post following days of increasing rumour and speculation surrounding Pakistan's exit from the Champions Trophy in South Africa. The board has yet to take a decision on the offer, which was made during a meeting of a National Assembly committee called to discuss the issue.

Pakistan's semi-final loss to New Zealand, and Younis's crucial dropped catch off Grant Elliot, were the subject of an Indian newspaper report that hinted at more to the loss than what met the eye. The ICC immediately cracked down on the report and though it was retracted the next day, it snowballed in Pakistan in the following days, culminating in today's meeting of the National Assembly's standing committee on sports in Islamabad.

Younis declared that he is fit for UAE Series

After coming back from CT 2009, Younis said he was took some rest due to recovery of his injury......but now he finalize that he was fit and available for UAE series against NewZeland.....

Pakistan captain Younis Khan ruled out the uncertainty about his playing in the series against New Zealand and said he is fit and available to play in the forthcoming series. Younis however determine to attend the meeting called by the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Sports.

"I am recovered from my injury and available to play against New Zealand," Khan told Cricdb at Karachi Expo Center – where we was invited as an honorary guest on the ceremony of World Mental Health Day organized by Karachi Psychiatry Hospital. "I will also attend the meeting called by the standing committee on sports,” he said in a brief talk.

Khan – who was awarded a shield by the organizer, urged for the sack of mental and physical fitness both men and women should take part in sports activities.

Khan played three matches in the ICC Champions Trophy matches despite suffered hairline fracture in a finger. His captaincy came under attack from various quarters dropping a crucial catch in the semi-final against New Zealand which Pakistan lost by five wickets. Khan dropped an easy catch to let Grant Elliott off the hook. Elliott scored an unbeaten fifty to help New Zealand score an upset win over Pakistan.

Even the loss against the Kiwis also sparked off a match-fixing controversy where both captain and coach Intikhab Alam were accused of losing the matches against Australia[Group match] and New Zealand in the elite eight-nation tournament ‘deliberately’.

Cricdb also learnt that the skipper would not tolerate the slur of match-fixing levelled against him and his teammates and would resign from the captain's job if he felt so.

There were media reports suggesting Shahid Afridi - Pakistan T20I captain, will take over in the ODIs too against New Zealand, but Afridi denied he had been offered the captaincy in his recent meeting with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ejaz Butt at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday along with outgoing manager Yawar Saeed.

Terrorists Attacked on ARMY HQ, Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan's army says commandos have caught the last militant who attacked its headquarters and took dozens of hostages.

Pakistan Army "ZINDABAD"

In Picture, Pakistan Army Commandos are in Action against Terrorists.

Spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas says the capture Sunday morning brings to an end a 22-hour standoff in the garrison city of Rawalpindi outside the capital. He says the final militant who was caught is wounded.

Three captives and four hostage-takers were killed, as were two of the rescuers.

The audacious assault on the country's military establishment showed the strength of militants allied with al-Qaida and the Taliban ahead of a planned army offensive on their heartland in South Waziristan along the Afghan border and signaled that any push there would be met with more attacks across Pakistan.

The government said the siege had steeled its resolve to go through with the South Waziristan offensive, calling it ‘inevitable.’ The United States and Pakistan's other Western allies want the country to take more action against insurgents also blamed for soaring attacks on US and Nato troops in Afghanistan.

Explosions and gunshots rang out as commandos moved into a building in the complex just before dawn Sunday, while a helicopter hovered in the sky. Three ambulances were seen driving out of the heavily fortified base close to the capital, Islamabad.

Two hours after the raid began, two new explosions were heard. The army said it was ‘mopping up’ the remaining insurgents.

Up to five heavily armed militants took the hostages after they and about four other assailants attacked the main gate of the army headquarters Saturday, killing six soldiers, including a brigadier and a lieutenant colonel. Four of the attackers, who were wearing army uniforms, were killed.

No group claimed responsibility, but authorities said they were sure that the Taliban or an allied militant group were behind the strike. The city is filled with security checkpoints and police roadblocks.

Army spokesman Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas said 20 of the hostages had been kept in a room guarded by a militant wearing a suicide vest who was shot and killed before he managed to detonate his explosives.

He said the 25 who were freed included soldiers and civilians. Three captives were killed, along with four militants, he said. ‘It was a very skilled rescue operation,’ he said.

Saturday's siege followed a car bombing that killed 49 on Friday in the northwestern city of Peshawar and the bombing of a UN aid agency earlier in the week that killed five in Islamabad. The string of attacks destroyed any remaining hope that the militants had been left a spent force by the death of Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud in a US missile strike in August.

A week ago, Baitullah Mehsud's successor, Hakeemullah Mehsud, told journalists summoned to a briefing in South Waziristan that the Taliban would launch more attacks on military, government and other targets in the country.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik said a Waziristan offensive was now ‘inevitable.’ ‘We are going to come heavy on you,’ he warned the militants.

In its brazenness and sophistication, Saturday's assault resembled attacks in March in the eastern city of Lahore by teams of militants against the visiting Sri Lankan cricket team and a police training center, which the insurgents took over for eight hours before security forces retook it.

The attack began shortly before noon when the gunmen attacked the main gate with assault rifles and grenades after bundling out of a white van that reportedly had army license plates.

‘There was fierce firing, and then there was a blast,’ said Khan Bahadur, a shuttle van driver who was standing outside the gate. ‘Soldiers were running here and there,’ he said. ‘The firing continued for about a half-hour. There was smoke everywhere. Then there was a break, and then firing again.’

After a 45-minute gunfight, four of the attackers were killed, said Abbas, who initially said that the assault was over and the situation ‘under full control.’

But more than an hour later, gunshots rang out from the headquarters compound, and Abbas then confirmed that other gunmen had eluded security forces and slipped into the compound.

A police intelligence report obtained by The Associated Press on Saturday had warned in July that members of the Taliban along with Jaish-e-Mohammad, a militant group based in the Punjab province, were planning to attack army headquarters after disguising themselves as soldiers.

India, Pakistan in different groups for World Cup 2011

India and Pakistan, Australia and South Africa find themselves in different groups for the 2011 World Cup. The groupings for the tournament, to be held on the subcontinent, were approved on the second day of the ICC Board meeting in Johannesburg. The 14 teams have been divided into two groups of seven.

At the meeting, the ICC also lauded the success of the World Cup's miniature version, the ICC Champions Trophy, which had earlier won the endorsement of Ricky Ponting and Daniel Vettori. "I think most experts of the game and the opinion-makers are now convinced the ICC Champions Trophy definitely has a place in the cricket calendar," David Morgan, the ICC President, said. "It also gives me immense pleasure to say the quality of cricket we have seen in the last 14 days proves that 50-over format can comfortably co-exist with the traditional five-day Test and the short 20-over formats."

Groups for the 2011 World Cup

Group A - Australia, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada, Kenya.

Group B - India, South Africa, England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Netherlands.

ICC Champions Trophy 2009 South Africa, Final AUS vs NZL

Aussie bowlers hurts Kewi batting very badly, almost won half of the match, because the form of Australia Team shows us that they have a ability to chase that small total very easily. The biggest loss of today match is Kewi Captain Vettori misses due to his Hamstring Injury.

All three fast bowlers were fast, accurate and menacing, Nathan Hauritz was canny on a pitch that assisted him, and Shane Watson was stable. As a result New Zealand never had space to themselves: the first time their run-rate crossed four an over was at the end of the 43rd over, but they had lost seven wickets by then and had consumed the batting Powerplay. Ricky Ponting was proactive in attacking: even during two sizable partnerships, he had aggressive field sets, and he brought back all of his three strike bowlers in the middle overs to try and get breakthroughs.

A bad start for New Zealand got worse when Brendon McCullum, the stand-in captain, fell for a 14-ball duck. McCullum's dismissal seemed inevitable. Right from the off, Brett Lee and Peter Siddle hit the mid-to-late 140s, and Lee got consistent outswing too. Three tight overs were enough to frustrate McCullum into cutting a Siddle delivery that was too close to him.
Martin Guptill and Aaron Redmond weathered the storm that the three Aussie fast men worked up, but they were not helped by the field settings, which refused to give them cheap singles. Most of Guptill's boundaries were top-quality shots, but they were too sporadic for Australia to push fields back. A 61-run stand was ended by smart bowling from Hauritz in the 19th over, who smartly pushed one wide when he saw Redmond charging out. That stumping set New Zealand back again, and into another phase of rebuilding, at 66 for 2 in the 19th over. Hauritz, getting good bite out of the pitch, and Mitchell Johnson, coming back to trouble both right-hand batsmen from round the stumps, made that job extremely difficult.

Hauritz then got the big wicket, the free-stroking Guptill, which was just reward for aggressive and varied offspin bowling. Ponting was not satisfied with two wickets in quick time, he got slips in and asked Johnson and Lee attack furthermore. Ross Taylor, who twice edged to short of slip deliveries from Johnson straightening from a sharp round-the-wicket angle, finally played an impatient shot, a drive away from his body, and Michael Hussey took a well-judged overhead catch at point. Lee produced a vicious inswinging yorker to get rid of Grant Elliott, and James Franklin and Neil Broom were left to try and survive the 50 overs.

From 94 for 5 Franklin and Broom took New Zealand to 133 for 5 in 38 overs, and for the first time looked in a position to attack the bowlers. Accordingly they called for the Powerplay, and got 26 off the first 16 balls. Just then a terrible misunderstanding between the batsmen, off a wide fulltoss no less, sent Broom back, and Australia were on the attack again. Another Lee yorker took care of Franklin, and the last four could manage 34 in the last eight.

Nerveless Vettori and Elliott lead New Zealand to final

So finaly, Pakistan efforts that extremely put up in this tournaments end.............
Pakistan played good cricket, as well have lots of back prays of their country.........

But on other hand New Zealand played well as well all conditions going in his favour........

Grant Elliott and Daniel Vettori guided an incredibly thin batting line-up, blighted by injuries, to a modest target which was made more difficult to achieve by the variety in Pakistan's bowling attack. The New Zealand batsmen, who came out blazing at the start, made sure Pakistan never got back-to-back wickets, and the required run-rate never became too high for a well-timed batting Powerplay to redress. The five-wicket victory broke New Zealand's semi-final hoodoo, both against Pakistan and in world events.

Pakistan will rue two turning points, around the 40-over mark of each innings. In the first half of the day, after Pakistan's top order had failed, the 19-year-old Umar Akmal fought back with a free-spirited and sensible half-century. But just when he would have looked to open up and take the batting Powerplay he became a part of a 32-for-5 collapse thanks to a rare ordinary call from Simon Taufel. During the chase, with the run-rate slowly creeping past seven, and the batsmen struggling to stay abreast, Younis Khan dropped a dolly at cover from Elliott. He was on 42 off 78 balls then, New Zealand required 69 from 64, and only one four and two sixes had been hit in the preceding 21 overs.

That drop, off Mohammad Aamer, came during an extremely tight period when New Zealand scored only 13 runs off four overs. With 59 required off the last eight, Vettori and Elliott called for the Powerplay, and with 10 and 14 coming off its the first and third overs, the pressure evaporated.

Before that there was pressure aplenty. Both Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill came with a clear brief: get as many as possible in the first two Powerplays, and then the run-rate will be easy to manage - 44 of the first 60 runs came in boundaries. In doing that, though, both McCullum and Guptill lost their wickets. And when debutant Aaron Redmond fell in the 17th over, with the score 71 and the ball starting to turn big, Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi seemed to be all over the batsmen.

Then came the dropped chance, and then the Powerplay. Vettori opened up first during the restrictions, lofting Ajmal, Aamer and Rana for boundaries. Two no-balls by Rana in the 45th over almost put it across Pakistan, and 16 runs from the next over, by Umar Gul, sealed the matter.

If planning was the key in New Zealand's innings, it was conspicuous by its absence in Pakistan's. Their openers were duly tested by New Zealand bowlers, who found the perfect balance between the defensive and the offensive after having lost the toss on a flat pitch surrounded by an outfield as fast as a highway.

Imran Nazir and Kamran Akmal made uncharacteristically solid starts but, at 43 for 0 after nine overs, Shane Bond produced a special over. Two accurate bouncers, one a no-ball, and the other, a jaffa, rising from just short of a length and jagging into Nazir and taking the edge, reminded the cricketing world what it had been missing.

Ian Butler, who had been taken for three boundaries in his first over, removed Shoaib Malik and Kamran Akmal in back-to-back overs, both to ordinary shots. But during an 80-run stand for the fifth wicket, Mohammad Yousuf and Umar didn't try to unsettle the lesser New Zealand bowlers. It seemed as though they had forgotten the batting Powerplay, and played as if the good old 15-over restriction rule was in place.

Yousuf fell when the time to accelerate came, having scored 45 off 78. James Franklin and Grant Elliot went for 40 in their 10 overs, and gave Butler, Bond and Vettori enough scope to attack. Butler ended with career-best figures of 4 for 44.

When Yousuf fell in the 39th over, with the score on 166, one would have expected Shahid Afridi to call for the Powerplay. He didn't. But he kept playing risky cricket with the field out, and paid for it. In between those two dismissals, Taufel ruled Umar lbw off Vettori but replays showed the batsman had hit the ball. The Pakistan bowlers were left to give themselves runs to defend, and Aamer and Ajmal did that in uninhibited manner. They managed 233, with a 35-run last-wicket stand, but their batsmen had left them with too much to do.
